Our Story
Welhavens was born in the heart of Bergen, Norway, from the shared vision of Renate Rolland and Stine Sophie Kaland. It all began with a personal quest for something that simply didn’t exist yet: lingerie that combines beauty, comfort, and sustainability without compromise.
Renate, a tailor and costume technician with a rich background in costume design for film and television, has always been deeply connected to craftsmanship. Her extensive experience gave her an eye for quality and a passion for creating pieces that are not just functional, but beautiful. It was this attention to detail that she brought into Welhavens, weaving together her love for luxury design with her drive to create something that could be worn every day with confidence.
But the story behind Welhavens is also one of frustration—the frustration of not being able to find lingerie that met Renate’s exacting standards: it had to be elegant, it had to be sustainable, and it had to fit into her active lifestyle. As a mother, a designer, and someone deeply passionate about sustainable fashion, Renate saw a gap in the market. She didn’t want to compromise on comfort, beauty, or ethical production. And that’s where Welhavens was born—out of the desire to create luxurious wool lingerie that meets all those needs without harming the planet.
Drawing on her deep knowledge of wool—a fabric that has long been a staple in Scandinavian wardrobes—Renate embarked on designing a collection of Merino wool lingerie that is plastic-free, sustainable, and designed with the modern woman in mind. She sought to create pieces that not only offered luxury and sophistication, but also comfort and versatility. Pieces that feel as good as they look, that would support her through everything—from long workdays to yoga sessions and quiet moments at home.
The result is a collection that marries the natural benefits of wool with elegant design. Each piece of lingerie exudes quiet luxury, combining comfort, style, and sustainability without compromising on aesthetics. Welhavens is more than a brand—it’s a reflection of a lifestyle where luxury and sustainability are inseparable.
At the heart of our philosophy is a commitment to ethical luxury. Our garments are designed with you and the planet in mind, ensuring that every piece we create is an investment in quality and sustainability. We carefully source our wool from ZQ-certified farms, where the animals are treated with care and the land is managed with respect. The wool itself is 17.5 microns in diameter—silky soft and breathable, perfect for wearing close to the skin. Lightweight, breathable, and eco-friendly, it’s the ideal choice for year-round wear.

Welhavens ble til i hjertet av Bergen, i Welhavensgate, skapt av Renate Rolland og Stine Sophie Kaland. Renate har bakgrunn som skredder og erfaring som kostymetekniker for film, TV og teater. Denne bakgrunnen har gitt henne en unik forståelse for håndverk, kvalitet, og design som både er elegant og funksjonelt.
Welhavens er vårt lidenskapsprosjekt, utviklet ved siden av våre fulltidsjobber, som et svar på behovet for bærekraftig og luksuriøst ullundertøy. Vi ønsket å lage merinoullundertøy som kombinerer skandinavisk minimalisme med etisk produksjon – uten å gå på kompromiss med verken skjønnhet eller komfort.
Vår reise startet med Renates personlige søken etter undertøy som ikke gikk på kompromiss med estetikk, komfort, eller etiske standarder. Inspirert av ullens sentrale plass i skandinaviske garderober, ønsket hun å skape plastfritt, bærekraftig merinoullundertøy med en følelse av luksus. Undertøy som ikke bare fungerer på fjellturer, men som også kan bæres med stolthet i hverdagen. Resultatet er en kolleksjon som forener ullens naturlige fordeler med elegant design, og som sikrer både komfort, allsidighet, og estetikk.
Vår ull er hentet fra ZQ-sertifiserte gårder, og er 17,5 mikroner i diameter – silkemyk og perfekt for klær som bæres tett på huden. Lett og pustende, det er det ideelle, miljøvennlige undertøyet for bruk hele året. Hos Welhavens er vi forpliktet til etisk luksus, med design som ivaretar både kroppen og planeten, og som forener luksus med bærekraft på en måte som føles bra for både deg og miljøet.
